Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday (Tsakhazard) in the Christian calendar this year is on 28 of March, the Sunday before Easter sixth and last Sunday in Lent. A day before the church curtains are opened. Palm Sunday recalls triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem riding upon an ass, when his followers shouted “Hosanna” which means “Save us Now! ” and scattered olive and palm tree branches in his path the people were very excited. They spread branches on the road – and even laid down their clothes.

According the church the olive-tree symbolizes peace, victory, glory and wisdom, the he palm tree branches- our presents to Jesus Christ and clothes- human beings release from blames. This same day  Catholicos of All Armenians Garagin B proclaimed children blessing day.

In the Palm Sunday morning people go to the church, buy olive and palm tree branches which usually look like circles and take them into the church where the priest blesses the branches. In the church people usually have this green circles on their heads and then bring them to their places keeping them during the year as a symbol of their faith exactly one week before His resurrection.
